SUNCHASER FILMCLIP

A collaboration between Canberra film and video production company SilverSun Pictures and local band Sunchaser & the Wayward Orchestra has resulted in a film clip set to be released in mid-November. Frontman Jason Campbell-Smith says “it’s been an amazing creative journey. SilverSun Pictures has given us an opportunity to do something we could not afford to do otherwise!” The film clip is directed and edited by Douglas Kirk and filmed by Roger Price, and features the animation of Katie Ryan and brilliant character designs by illustrator Kieron Pratt. The launch is $10 on the door and will also feature an array of local bands.

7D DSLR used for German Production

Director of Photography – Roger Price used the Canon 7D for all the in car and external shots for shooting scenes on Melbourne’s busy freeways for the American-German production company, Storyhouse Productions. “The 7D along with its wide lenses was fantastic, so easy to mount, speed was the key here as we had limited time on the busy Melbourne freeways.” The shootings scenes were for the Galileo X.perience episode “Chase Weir”, a story about a guy who was trapped in a Ford Explorer, which was out of control with 100 kmh.

At the moment Storyhouse Productions are producing Galileo X.perience for the German broadcaster ProSieben. The idea is to tell the stories of people who experienced extreme situations all over the world combined with real- live footage, expert interviews, experiments and high value CGIs. The format is produced for the German and international market. Therefore Story House worked together with Viva Vision to shoot three stories which all took place in Victoria Australia.

“During the filming the main question was, how to emphasize visually the interviews of the main protagonists. Re- Enactments were not possible because of limited time and budget. So Roger came up with the idea to use the 7D for Flashbacks, Point- Of- Views, Extreme Close Up etc. to give the stories a more cinematic feeling without losing the documentary style. Now we got visually unique and very thrilling episodes which already enthused the client in first screenings.” Stephan Arapovic

Story House Productions is an international, award-winning TV production company based in Berlin, Munich and Washington D.C. The company’s main focus is the production and distribution of high quality, blue-chip non-fiction programming with an international appeal. The Berlin office is specialized in documentaries in the field of science and history for clients such as the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic TV or ZDF, Germany. ProSieben’s Galileo is Germany’s No. 1 trademark for popular science TV shows. Story House Productions produces most of the documentary spin- offs for Galileo, with average ratings between 1.5 to 2 million regular viewers

The Portugal episode features Will travelling to the rugged mountains in Portugal’s north, to find out more about the King of Portuguese cheese, Serra da Estrela. Dating back to pre-Roman times, the ancient cheese is still made from ewe’s milk and curdled with the juice of cardoon thistles. Will also travels to the south to look at some of Serra da Estrela’s close cousins, before visiting the ruggedly beautiful island of Sao Jorge in the Azores to learn about the benchmark cheeses of “little Switzerland”.
Roger has been the cinematographer on cheese Slices for the last 7 years and continues with Will’s latest, series 6 due in 2012 visit www.cheeseslices.com for all the details.

“It all for the fun”

Award winning Director of Photography Roger Price shot Grey Advertisings pitch for this years Canberra Marketing and Communication Forum. Three agencies were asked to pitch campaigns that sold Canberra to other Australians as having the best nightlife in the country.
judges including Gruen veteran Russel Howcroft and Liberal Senator Gary Humphries.

Writer/Director – PHIL SELBY,
Cinematographer – ROGER PRICE
Post Production – SILVERSUN PICTURES
Actor – PAUL MURPHY
Format – HD 1920 x 1080 / Canon 7D

“Its a great camera for this style of production, easy setups and a great way to produce a 35mm look on a budget.
More and more productions are moving towards DSLR for TVC’s, Corporates and documentary cinematography ” says Roger

If you are planning to film in foreign locations then Viva Vision can assist you in organising and sourcing quality operators to meet your filming needs. Roger Price has more than a decade of travel experience in over 30 countries. They have a team of production professionals that operate in foreign countries and can source fixers, researchers, directors & producers from across the globe.

There are lots of things to consider when you travel, what to take, airport transfers, customs clearance, flight bookings, excess weight, hotels, hire cars etc. They can also advise on expenses and potential issues that can and frequently do arise during foreign film trips. Take the confusion out of your next trip and access the advice and assistance that Viva Vision offers its clients.

Viva Vision uses the services of cousinsconnections.com for all thier travel needs.

What People are saying

“Roger is an exceptional cinematographer. His work on Cheese Slices has seen him win numerous ACS Gold and Silver awards. I have worked with Roger for over ten years on television programs including Cheese Slices, Escape, the Great Italian Cafe and Campbells TVCs. Roger thinks visually. When he sees something, he sees it in terms of composition, where the light is falling, and how to tell the story in pictures. Roger’s hilarious sense of humour makes him great fun to work with, and lightens up long trips on the road. I have no hesitation in recommending Roger as a cinematographer/DOP.” – Richard Grainger

“Consistently creative cinematographer, great to work with.” – Fausto Pighin
